About

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page – I’m Nicky, your friendly neighbourhood Nomadic Nutritionista 🙂

So who the heck am I and why did I start this blog?

Well, I’m glad you asked, but don’t worry – I’m not going to bore you with a blow-by-blow account of my life up until this moment!

I first became interested in nutrition and why it’s important to consider what we eat about 10 years ago when I was studying for a qualification in reflexology. As you can imagine, reflexology can have a powerful effect on the body so we had to have a pretty in-depth understanding of anatomy and physiology. This led on to learning about how our bodies use the macro- and micronutrients, and what can happen if these elements are not in balance. I’d never really given it that much thought so it was quite an eye-opener!

Well, I say that but back in my 20’s I studied Horse Management and Business Studies to help my career working with horses, so I had a good grounding in nutrition when it came to our equine friends. I guess the internal workings of a human are really not that different!

Learning to show a bit of restraint…

Anyway. I was younger and more naive 10 or so years ago so I didn’t necessarily apply everything I’d learned about nutrition to my everyday eating habits. It doesn’t take much for me to stray off the wholefoods path and wolf down some pizza or a burger!

Now that I’m older and a little bit wiser, I make sure to pick my weapon when it comes to cheeky meals and go for quality rather than quantity (although MacDonald’s and Burger King are still on the agenda if the mood takes me – I’m only human!). There are so many restaurants now that make their dishes with excellent locally sourced produce, and it’s much easier to make an educated decision on where to go for a slap-up meal.

When I hit 40 I realised that I should probably start taking care of myself a bit better because, let’s face it, that’s the first of the milestone ages and it can be a bit of a shock to realise that “adulting” is now required! I have a bunch of injuries from when I used to work with horses and from a car accident in my early teens, so I didn’t want to get any creakier than was strictly necessary…
